When thinking about the term "family", one must understand how children learn from the action of those around them. A family unit should provide a sense of health socialization and communication. Some may argue that openness and the freedom to explore are qualities need to establish a stable family setting. Meanwhile others suggestion the regulation of children's activities can pose to be a more "suitable for success" strategy. Although the socioeconomic status of the family as well as the marital partnership can be massive recurses of specific characteristics, one must also consider the important of affection and example presented by a family unit.
From my own personal perspective, I was raised in a family that inspired freedom of choice and decision making. My family unit consisted of my mother, my sister, and myself. Growing up in a separated family lead to mistrust towards the idea of affection. As a child I was given the pleasure of personal preferences and accommodations. My mom would reinforce the notion that I could select what I wanted to eat, to wear, who to see, who not to see, as well as the activities in which I took part in. However, due to our economic standings I grew to understand the existence of financial limitation. I believe that as I developed my ability to be open and discuss sexuality in the family unit, aided my once indifferent ideals related to affection. Moreover, as some may suggest that ones genes or one environment are what mold an individual, I can only support the claim that a family is the primary source of influence in the development of oneself.
