interracial couples in society

Just the other day I was on the phone with one of my close friends. Her name is Ashia and she is identified as being African American. She had a boyfriend who is white. They both attend SIU in Edwardsville. So while we are on the phone, she begins to tell me a story about how her and her boyfriend James were at a party together, the party was being thrown by the fraternity that James is in. She said that at first the party was nice at first until she started getting looks, from some other people there. We then started to talk more about relationships and I was telling her how we were discussing relationships in sociology. I think people's interruption on interracial couples are based on how they were raised. For example my grandmother expects my to marry a man who is African American, she always talks about how "black love is a beautiful thing". That might be true, but who says that I want to marry a black man. Not to metion my grandmother has never been married, so her credibility on marriage is kind of shot. My mother kind of has the has the same view as my grandmother because she is in fact married to a black man, but my step father is not fully black,  he is mixed with White, German, and Indian. But he identifies his self as a black man. Personally I think that interracial couples make up a large portion of the population. For my human sexuality class I had to write a paper on interracial couples, who give birth to interracial twins. One twin might be born white, while the other twin is born with a darker skin color. I found a couple articles online were the mothers of interracial twins are asked horrible questions like "do your children have the same father, or did you have intercourse with multiple men?" I remember an incident that Ashia told me about where her and James were out some where and they were stopped by a police officer and the officer had asked James how did he know Ashia and what was his intentions with her, as if she was some type of prostitute. Which is completely insane.
