Mass media plays a very important role in today's society. It seems as though people are numb to all acts of violence displayed on the internet. World Star Hip-Hop is a prime example of media that condones violence. This website is infamous for posting videos of people fighting and engaging in inappropriate sexual behavior. I feel that this acceptance is taking emotion and empathy out of everyone's lives. Nowadays when we hear about someone getting shot or killed we just turn the other cheek as if it is normal. No one cares unless it is happening to them personally. It has even gotten to the point where media that is geared towards children is becoming more and more lenient with how much violence they put into kids shows and video games. This is when we need to turn to the most important agent of socialization, the family. Parents need to start monitoring what their children can watch and become more active in their lives. There has been plenty of research done that shows that what children watch on television and online impact their behaviors in many ways. With the advancement of technology and the increase in people posting violent acts online this will not only become more acceptable but will become a cultural norm.
