Culture in Our Society

Society would be nothing without culture. Culture seems to be everything in society today. The definition of "culture" is the way of thinking, the way of acting, and the material objects that together form a peoples way of life. Culture is both our link to the past and our guide to the future. Cultures shapes what we do and how we feel.

Culture has affected the United States greatly in the past years because of material culture. Kids as young as 6 or 7 have iPhone's and tablets and all kinds of electronic things. It has become a lot easier to communicate with people and such things like cell phones and their computers have became a part of our society that most people cannot live without. I know for me, I have to have my phone on me 24/7, sometimes I feel like I cannot live without my phone. It has became my way of life and has helped me with things throughout my life, Material culture isn't the only thing that effects society.

The way people speak, also known as language is a very important role in culture an society. Recently in the United States many people have found it useful to get better jobs if you can speak more than one language. A very common useful language is Spanish. The culture of language is so important because it gives you the opportunity to learn about so many other ethics and culture that different people share. I know for me, I only speak one language which is English. I feel as if I am put as a burden because i cannot speak another language like Spanish fluently, and I cant even speak my own native tongue, which is polish, at all.

My last paragraph leads into the inequalities in our society having to do with culture. Because I am a girl, I thought the Feminist Theory is a good thing from culture in society to talk about. I am a woman that strongly believes in Feminism. From the things I go through everyday life worrying about is rape, sexual assault, lower pay, and so much more. I think equality with gender definitely ties in with equality with culture because your gender has a huge part in culture in society.

With all the things I mentioned about culture it really describes what defines us. Everyone is different, It should be embraced and new cultural things should also be embraced too. No matter a man or woman, your race or religion, culture defines you in some impact in your life. I know it effects me. My culture is very Americanized. I am proud of my heritage and where im from, and everyone else should too. Embrace your new found cultures and the old,  be proud. Dont judge a book by its cover.
