Gender roles shifted course very radically in the past 20 years. How often can someone freely say the simple statement "F*%$ Gender roles"? Probably more often then we could have 60 years back. The text describes a distinction between Gender and Sex. Sex is biological Gender is social the difference is just perceptions.
When statement like these are made it is part of a bigger social problem. Statement like these can be considered radical, but in reality it is that simply to understand. As individuals we are coming to geather as a society to challenge the social norm of what gender is. Because that is exactly how Social conflict theorist would identify the problem. It has become a cause of many social movements as well like the increase support for LGBT communities.
Have other countries come as far as we have? Some have and some have not. Are we as a society really accepting the change of gender roles, that is still an on going topic. There is still come conflict that comes with the change of gender roles, but it doesn't mean its impossible. It has always been about self perception, and the media has been a big part of that.
Whisper is a phone app that allows individuals to freely express themselves anonymously with out judgment. However, there is still judgment in some responses from other individuals. Has perception changed, not completely. It is statement and radical individuals like these that help the social movement of changing the perception of what gender roles are, because it is society the influences that idea not just the individual.
